This morning Monica and I were talking about our personal goals for 2019. Of course we talked about our marriage, family, friends, etc. But, THE ONE goal that has consistently moved to the forefront of our life, family and work is eliminating pediatric HIV/AIDS in this generation. I believe we can do this. I truly believe!
It’s hard to believe that we are still fighting this epidemic 35 years after it was discovered. Even more stunning is that almost 40 million people, someone’s son, daughter, wife, husband, have died since then, making AIDS one of the most destructive epidemics in history. In the past decade, we have seen such promising scientific and social advances in preventing and treating HIV/AIDS. As a GHI family, we are so thankful that we have been a part of those advances. But there is still so much to do in this fight against HIV/AIDS. For the first time ever, the “dream” of eliminating HIV/AIDS in a generation is now a “reality”. Personally, just 10 years ago, I thought this was only a dream, but with new innovations, knowledge/wisdom, life-saving medications, it has not only become a reality, but our goal in life. I believe. I truly believe. Just like it takes a community/village to raise a child, it takes all of us to make this dream into a reality. Thank you for walking with us, sometimes honestly carrying us, in this fight for life for these mothers and children. And, it really is a daily fight.
On World AIDS Day, we reflect on all of our dear friends we have lost to AIDS. We reflect on those who have so bravely fought for life, and those of us who have, and continue, to teach us how to value life during this fight to eliminate HIV/AIDS. If you want to be a part of this life-saving work with us, please pray for us, for the mothers and children that are in our program, and go donate on our website.
Thank you for believing in GHI and our work!
